Newport Beach, CA:

Tragic news has hit an Orange County State Assembly campaign in the final hours before voters head to the Polls for Tuesday's June Primary Election.

Paul Wagner, the 20-year-old son of state Assembly candidate Don Wagner in the 70th State Assembly District was found dead in a car parked in Newport Beach early Saturday morning.

Wagner was found dead after a passer-by called police to report an unresponsive man in the driver's seat of a car in an underground parking structure.

According to reports this morning, Newport Beach Police Department Sgt. Evan Sailor says there are no signs of foul play, and it's believed the Purdue University student died late Friday evening.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine cause of death.

Don Wagner is a popular figure in Orange County politics.  He is a member of the board of trustees for the South Orange County Community College District and he is running to replace Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in the 70th Assembly District on Tuesday.

Wagner has been endorsed by several "tea party" movement members, including  Maricopa County AZ Sheriff Joe Arpiao, as well as other local officials.

Wilmington, CA

12:10 a.m.

That stubborn auto scrap/junk yard fire is still causing problems some 11 hours after it began  in the Wilmington, Harbor City, San Pedro part of Los Angeles.

So far, more than 100 firefighters have fought the large fire at an auto scrap yard Saturday in the San Pedro/Wilmington/Harbor City area of Los Angeles.

Water shortages and difficult access has made it difficult to fight the blaze, but firefighters are beginning to get the upper hand on the situation.

Fire personnel were sent to 1900 block of North Blinn Avenue, near Pacific Coast Highway, at 11:34 a.m.
According to the fire department, the fire was still burning ferociously and sending up a huge plume of smoke near the Port of Los Angeles 100 minutes after the first dispatch.

You could see the black smoke all over Southern California.  Here in Cerritos where I live, the black smoke clouds were in a long trail that was running west to east in the deep blue summer sky.

A "major emergency fire" status was declared by the fire department at 2:33 p.m. and all training exercises across the city were cancelled.  A commander at the scene said water supplies were insufficient and the fire was burning in a large metal pile, making it difficult to get to the flames, comparing it to "a football field full of metal."

Heavy truck traffic entering adjacent dockyards was also hindering the movement of fire trucks.  So, avoid this area for a while longer till this fire is over.

WILMINGTON -- A huge fire has broken out over in an auto scrap yard here in a notorious "toxic polluted" area of the Port of Los Angeles.

So far, more than 100 firefighters are working to contain a huge fire at an auto scrap yard in Wilmington Saturday.

The fire in the 1900 block of North Blinn Avenue, near Pacific Coast Highway, was reported at 11:34 a.m.

Sixteen fire companies and four rescue teams -- 103 firefighters in all -- were at the scene of the blaze. The fire is sending up a huge plume of smoke near the Port of Los Angeles.

Fire crews are having trouble with limited access to water in the area, a commander at the scene said. The smoke can be seen all over the South Bay and Long Beach and much of South Los Angeles.

Due to the toxic materials that are being emitted into the air, please use caution and stay indoors if you live in that area.

Westwood, CA

Tonight, the world is remembering the life and legacy of UCLA Basketball Coach John Wooden, who passed away tonight at the age of 99.

The passing of Coach Wooden is like having a grandfather or favorite uncle die.

Everyone loved Coach Wooden, and he touched millions upon millions of people all over the world and here in his adopted "hometown" of Los Angeles.

I was born into the "UCLA" way of life here in Southern California.  Yep.  You are either a Bruin or a USC Trojan here in LA.  My late father Dick Economy said I was going to have to be a "Bruin Fan" as early as I could walk.   I choose wisely.  I bleed Bruin baby blue.

Generation after generation grew up with Coach Wooden here in Los Angeles.  Tonight many tributes are being played on television and on the Internet and on the radio.

One of the last great interviews given by Coach Wooden, just a couple of years ago, was conducted by my longtime childhood friend Roger Lodge.

Roger Lodge, as many of you know, is the host of the wildly popular "Sports Lodge" heard throughout Southern California on AM830 and on KTLA Morning News each and every weekday morning.

(BTW....Roger was one of my best pals when we both attended and graduated from Cerritos High School in the Class of 1978. Opps. Sorry Rog. I hope I didn't blow your cover....lol.   Anyway...GREAT INTERVIEW by Roger!)

Enjoy the wonderment of this amazing man.  Celebrate his life!

RIP!

A traffic nightmare is playing out over here in Norwalk this morning on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway.

The motorcycle crash just north of Pioneer Boulevard was reported at 4:25 a.m., and all southbound lanes were closed to accommodate the investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A second crash occurred just before 5:20 a.m. in backed-up traffic when a big rig rear-ended a stopped vehicle on the southbound 5, according to the CHP.

Paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene. As soon as his name is released, and his city of residence, I will be posting it here.   In the meantime, Starbucks is doing HUGE business this morning over at the 5 and Shoemaker in Norwalk.

Keep you posted.

"VOODOO" CAR DEALERS FROM DOWNEY SENT TO PRISION FOR 12 YEARS FOR FRAUD

LOS ANGELES – Two Downey business owners – including a used car dealership owner who used voodoo to influence the outcome of his case – were sentenced to state prison today.

Deputy District Attorney Eugene Hanrahan of the Major Fraud Section, who prosecuted the case, said Ruben Hernandez, 34, owner of Downey Motorcars, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Co-defendant Joel Rodriguez, 45, owner of Coast to Coast Mortgage, was sentenced to a prison term of 12 years, eight months.

Hernandez and Rodriguez were convicted by a jury on May 6. Hernandez was found guilty of four counts of filing a false application and three counts of grand theft. Rodriguez was convicted of six counts of filing a false application and five counts of grand theft.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lance Ito, who presided over the trial and sentencing hearing, ordered Hernandez to return on June 9. Hernandez faces an additional 28 counts, including charges of grand theft and filing a false application, for allegedly engaging in fraud in his used car dealership.

Hernandez purchased six properties using false social security information and bank statements. Rodriguez used false social security numbers to purchase two properties, obtain home equity lines of credit and open a bank account.

Rodriguez was arrested shortly after the case was filed in January 2008. Hernandez, however, eluded authorities. About a year later, Hernandez was tracked down to a bungalow in Pasadena by Investigator David Ishibashi of the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation, Investigator Steve Louie of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Deputy U.S. Marshal Sal Reyes.

On Feb. 12, 2009, as Hernandez and his wife, Aida Gutierrez, 24, were coming out of their driveway, authorities moved in. Hernandez, ultimately, was arrested after engaging investigators in a mile-long, 80-mile-per-hour pursuit.

When authorities executed a search warrant on the home where Hernandez was staying, they discovered a voodoo shrine, the prosecutor said. The shrine included various artifacts and voodoo dolls, dunked head first in cups of water with pins in their eyes. The names of the prosecutor, the investigators and the case number were written on the dolls.

ASSEMBLYMAN TONY MENDOZA: HIS JOHN AND KEN SHOW MELTDOWN OVER ARIZONA IMMIGRATION LAW IS A YOU TUBE HIT IN THE MAKING! W2G, Tony!

Costa Mesa, CA:

Well, my Assemblyman Tony Mendoza is a You Tube HIT in the MAKING!

Yep, loveable Tony is the talk of KFI today four days after his meltdown last week on the popular John and Ken Show.

His rant with John Kobylt and Ken Champiou over the Costa Mesa City Council's position on the Arizona immigration law has already spawned at least 10 videos on You Tube.

The one clip that really struck me was this one posted from "SupportAZ."

Here is the description of the post:

"Illegal alien activist, Tony Mendoza gets put in his place by John Kobylt on the John & Ken Show on 640 AM KFI-Los Angeles on Friday May 28, 2010. You can download the podcast of this interview at johnandken.com by clicking the "podcast" link and checking out the 3 PM podcast. This classic interview exposes all of the lies and omissions being perpetuated by the media that the Arizona Immigration Law is some sort of "Facist law" in which "rogue cops" get to act like Nazi's. Costa Mesa California adopted essentially the same law as Arizona's law, and so assemblyman Tony Mendoza is trying to RETALIATE by effectively shutting down the Orange County Fair! All of the polls show that Americans overwhelmingly SUPPORT Arizona. You wouldn't know it from watching TV or reading the papers."

So, we have ONE week before the California Primary Election.

Do you know where the candidates for State Assembly and State Senate here in California stand on the Arizona Law? Pick up the phone. Call the candidates. THEN go to the POLLS and VOTE VOTE FOR for CHANGE next TUESDAY!
