Stacy Choi, a 17 year old graduating senior from Cerritos High School has won the 2010 Iron Chef Competition for 2010 for the Southeast Area ROP at the annual event held last week at the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel.

Choi wowed a panel of 7 local judges (including myself) with her all grilled veggie sandwich piled high on super fresh baked Italian bread. It literally melts in your mouth and has lots of roasted peppers, mushrooms, onions, and crunchiness bit after bit.

The new dish will be featured on the famous “Grille 91 Restaurant” at the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel menu for the next year.

Chef Carlos Garcia from the Sheraton Cerritos has been serving as the instructor for this fantastic student chef program that attracts area high school students from the ABC Unified School District for the past few years.

Once again, he is totally impressed with the skills of these local soon to be chefs.

The other students competing this year (and their dishes) were Olivia Hill with a Sweet Pineapple empanada  ; Erin Unison with an Asian Pear Salad; Genevieve Vasquez, Chipotle Chicken Cilantro and avocado sandwich; Chelsea Logan with a Amaretto Peanut Brittle Mousse (seen here); Talia Desiongco and a Summer Berry Bread Pudding; and Alexandra Cabriales with a Shrimp and Pork Buckwheat Sobe noodle salad entree.

Congratulations to these amazing talented young people here in our community. These students attend Cerritos High School, Tracy High School, Artesia High School, Gahr High School and Gretchen Whitney High School here in the ABC Unified School District.
