91 FREEWAY FIRE IN CERRITOS
This JUST IN....
A car crash sparked a brush fire in Cerritos late Friday afternoon on the westbound 91 Freeway, just east of Norwalk Boulevard. Heavy smoke could be smelled all over the community.
I took these photos by standing on top of a shopping cart at the vacant /former Boarders Book Store Center at Bloomfield and Artesia.
Traffic was a total mess on all of the streets in the Cerritos civic center area tonight. Great job to Fire Station 30 here in Cerritos for their quick action.

BREAKING NEWS: Artesia Councilman JOHN MARTINS will NOT SEEK a 3rd TERM; Community Leader Indu Patel Files. Race is wide open!

BREAKING NEWS:
By Randy Economy
(Artesia, CA) City Councilman John Martins has decided NOT to seek a third term for the Artesia City Council, sending a political shock wave through this community of 15,000.
Martins did not file his Nomination Papers by the 4:30 p.m. deadline today.
Under California law, their will be a five day extension period for non-incumbents to file for this fall's campaign.

Also, Artesia community leader Indu Patel filed today to become the first ever Indo-American to run for City Council here.
His campaign has created a lot of buzz over the past couple of days.
If elected, Indu Patel would become the first Indo-American ever elected to the Artesia City Council. Look for him to run a strong campaign with wide range support from all corners of the community.
Mayor Sally Flowers also filed today. If reelected, this will be her 4th term on the Artesia City Council.
Incumbent Councilman Victor Manalo also filed for reelection.
Manalo was elected to the City Council two years ago in a Special Election to fill the unexpired term of former Artesia City Councilman Tony Mendoza who is now in the State Assembly.
Former Councilman John Lyons also pulled nomination papers yesterday. Lyons retired from the Artesia City Council just two years ago. Is this a political comeback in the making? His re-entry into Artesia politics has lots of folks talking tonight.
Also, community leader Charles Oliver pulled nomination papers a couple of weeks ago, and has until next Wednesday to file.

My Thoughts:
I applaud John Martins for being a great leader for Artesia these past 9 years. Many feel that NOW is THE time for POLITICAL SEA CHANGE in ARTESIA. Embracing change is hard, especially here in Artesia and Cerritos.
But change is THE only way for a community to evolve.
Artesia is a mirror of California.
It is a community with many diverse needs, and the City Council needs to reflect the diversity of it's population and business community.
This election will be a watershed for Artesia.
Stay Tuned!

MURDER ON DROXFORD UPDATE!

There has been an arrest in the death of longtime Cerritos resident Joseph Paul Glebovich's case. Kelly Puente of the Long Beach Press Telegram is reporting the details of today's arrest at www.Presstelegram.com. This is great news for the community, and for the many friends and family members of Joe's who wanted to see justice in this case. It appears that his death was not associated as being a "home invasion" robbery, and that the suspect had previous ties with Mr. Glebovich. More details as the break!

CERRITOS - Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a Cerritos man found in his home in May, authorities said Wednesday.
Stephen Wohlgemuth, 52, was arrested on July 24 in connection with the death of 64-year-old Joseph Paul Glebovich, who was found dead in his home on the 12900 block of Droxford Street on the morning of May 4, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Philip Guzman.

Authorities did not release information on the cause of death or a possible motive, citing the ongoing investigation. Guzman said the men were acquaintances.

"They had been friends many years ago but I don't think they maintained contact," the deputy said. "In a case like this it's process of elimination. We couldn't exclude anybody, including old friends such as him."

Guzman said homicide detectives tracked Wohlgemuth to his home city of Las Vegas, where he was arrested. He is currently awaiting extradition to face first degree murder charges.
