MASSIVE "STATION" FIRE REACHES 42,500 ACRES; MT. WILSON COMMUNICATION TOWERS IN DIRECT PATH OF DEADLY FLAMES

This is just a quick and dirty montage starting around sunset of some of the night's pictures from the towercam at Mt Wilson observatory: http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~obs/towercam.htm

on Sunday, August 30. AMAZING TO SEE JUST HOW FAST THIS FIRE IS CONSUMING AN ENTIRE MOUNTAIN AS HUGE AS MT. WILSON.

I just watched the Station Fire reach the TOP of MT. Wilson from the 91 Freeway overpass at 183rd Street here in Cerritos. The fire is more than 45 miles NORTH of Cerritos, but tonight, you can actually see the flames light up the sky this far away.

Since I'm totally blind in one eye, and only have 40% vision in the other, I lucked out to get this shot tonight (overcross at 183rd and Carmenita).

You can see the flames in the dark northern sky from all over Southern California. Scary stuff these fires.
We also lost 2 brave fire fighters tonight and I pray for them and their loved ones.
It's sad to see our beautiful mountains up in flames. Top view from Mt. Wilson Cam is from the UCLA School of Physics and Astronomy.

Be safe.

Avoid the toxic smoke filled air, and pray for rain.
