LOS ANGELES – An alleged drunk driver accused of causing a traffic collision in Vernon that killed three people is due to be arraigned this afternoon. Isaac Bandt, 31 (dob 11/8/79), is charged with three counts of murder and one count each of DUI causing injury, driving with a .08% blood alcohol causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident. The complaint further alleges that the defendant drove at excessive speed.
The defendant is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 5 of East Los Angeles Superior Court. He is charged in case No. VA117856. On the evening of Dec. 11, the defendant, who was driving a pickup truck, allegedly ran several red lights before t-boning a compact vehicle containing two women, a man and a child.
Immediately following the collision, Bandt allegedly ran from the scene. Law enforcement officers found the defendant several blocks away, prosecutors said. The only person who survived the crash was a 6-year-old boy. Those killed in the collision were identified as the boy’s mother, her boyfriend and the boy’s grandmother. Bail for Bandt is recommended at $3.1 million.
