The former city manager of Vernon was arraigned today on a three-count Grand Jury indictment charging him with conflict of interest and public officer crime.

Daniel Vincent O’Callaghan, 54 (dob 4/3/56), also known as Donal O’Callaghan, pleaded not guilty to two counts of conflict of interest and one count of public officer crime. The indictment includes an excessive taking allegation that the loss exceeded $65,000.

The indictment was returned yesterday and unsealed today by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza. O’Callaghan is charged in case No. BA361204.

Deputy District Attorney Max Huntsman of the Public Integrity Division said the case involves incidents in 2007 and 2009. O’Callaghan allegedly participated in the making of a contract between the City of Vernon and his wife, Kimberly O’Callaghan. The amount of the loss is more than $140,000, the prosecutor said.
Bail for O’Callaghan was set at $50,000. The defendant’s next court date is Dec. 3 in Department 122 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum of four years, eight months in state prison.
