Lynwood, CA

Jackson Avenue turned into a horrific crime scene on Sunday with the death of a cab driver.  The accident and brutality of the crime has sent a shock wave around this tight knit community.

Here are the details of the crime from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives.

Cabdriver Erasmo Amaral, 56. died early Sunday morning at the 10900 block of Jackson Avenue in Lynwood after he was car jacked.

Century Sheriff's Station deputies responded to the area regarding a "Carjacking Just-Occurred"
call and discovered the victim Amaral lying in the street next to a taxi cab. He was pronounced dead at
the scene.

The investigation by Detectives have revealed that the suspect drove the taxi westbound on Imperial Highway while the victim clung to the outside of the driver's door. The suspect turned northbound on Jackson
Avenue, sideswiped the driver's side of the taxi into three parked vehicles, exited, and fled the
scene on foot, northbound Jackson Avenue and out of view.

It is believed that Amaral was dragged several hundred feet by the carjacker.  Horrific.  Just horrific. Makes me wonder why these crimes have to take place, and when will they end.

Detectives believe robbery may have been a motive in this incident. The suspect was described as a male Hispanic.  Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department Bureau at 323-890-5500. If you prefer to provide information
