FIRE BREAKS OUT IN WHITTIER HILLS AROUND COLIMA ROAD AND MAR VISTA AREA

WHITTIER -

A part of the "magical" Whittier Hills were on fire tonight, causing a huge traffic jam and lots of worried local neighbors and concerned residents.

Here are some of the details:
  • 125 firefighters are on the scene at the blaze.
  • Fire broke out at around 5 p.m. 
  • Location of the flash point of the fire is  east side of Colima Road, just north of Mar Vista Street.
  •  Los Angeles County Fire Department and Whittier Department responded to the incident.
  • No structures were immediately threatened.
  • Some buildings and structures near Skyline Drive and Aurora Crest Drive area considered to be "in danger."
  • Winds in the Whittier Hills tonight are around 6 to 8 mph.
  •  Four helicopters
  • One large helitanker 
  • Two fixed-wing airplanes were brought in to drop water
  • The cause of the fire in not yet known and is under investigation.  
  • The blaze may have had as many as three points of origin.
