LOS ANGELES –
Looks like another California lawmaker could be heading to jail because he doesn't live where he is suppose to....
What the hell is wrong with these ego driven, "do nothing" politicians who think they are "above the law?"
The latest political "bad boy" in California is Los Angeles based
State Sen. Rod Wright.
Wright was indicted on perjury and other charges, the result of a 23-month investigation into allegations the Democrat illegally claimed an Inglewood apartment as his residence, the District Attorney’s Office announced today.
The eight-count felony indictment (BA361187) was returned Monday by the Grand Jury. It was unsealed this morning when Wright, 58, surrendered and pleaded not guilty before Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg. The District Attorney’s office requested bail set at $45,000, said Deputy District Attorney Sandi Roth with the Public Integrity Division.
Here is what Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley's office is charging:
- On Feb. 13, 2008, Wright declared his intent to become a candidate for the 25th Senate District, claiming that he lived in one of the units at 868 Glenway Drive, a five-unit complex that he owns. He claimed the same address when he registered to vote in 2007.
- Wright, who previously served in the state Assembly, won the primary race on June 3, 2008, and was elected to the state senate on Nov. 4.
- In October 2008, the Public Integrity Division launched an investigation after receiving a written complaint that Wright was living at a residence outside of the Inglewood district, Roth said.
- The D.A.’s Bureau of Investigation revealed that since 2000, Wright allegedly has lived at his Baldwin Hills home, which is in the 26th district.
- One count of filing a false declaration of candidacy
- Five counts of voter fraud
- Two counts of perjury.
- The indictment alleges he fraudulently voted in elections in 2008 and 2009.
W2G Rod! You and Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon could possibly be future "room mates" in Prision....
