Pastor Leonel Pelayo: Pleads to Unlawful Sex with a Minor. Pastor worked at Iglesia Apostolica Monte de Horeb at

LOS ANGELES –

The pastor of a South Los Angeles church pleaded no contest today to having unlawful sex with a 14-year-old girl who was a member of his congregation, the District Attorney’s Office announced. Deputy District Attorney Martha Carrillo of the Sex Crimes Division said Leonel Pelayo, 45, entered the plea before Judge Michael Abzug and was sentenced to four years in state prison, which was suspended, and one year in jail. In addition, he was ordered to stay away from the victim, who is now 15, and placed on five years probation. In exchange for his plea, five additional felony counts that included lewd act upon a child and unlawful sexual intercourse were dismissed. Pelayo, a pastor at Iglesia Apostolica Monte de Horeb, engaged in a sexual relationship with the victim between July 1 and Aug. 20, 2010.
