Dr. KEVIN BROWN: Jury Convicts L.A. Physician of Sexually Assaulting Female Patients; Is son of Ex-Premier of Bermuda

LOS ANGELES – A jury today found Dr. Kevin Brown, the son of a former Premier of Bermuda, guilty of sexually assaulting eight of his female patients and an undercover LAPD officer who posed as a patient.
The eight-man, four woman jury deliberated about 1½ days before finding Brown, 40, guilty of 21 counts, including sexual battery by fraud, sexual penetration by a foreign object and sexual exploitation by a physician.
The jury deadlocked on eight felony counts, including rape. Judge Michael Pastor declared a mistrial on those counts.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Ann Marie Wise of the Sex Crimes Division, who said she was pleased with the verdict.
Brown, the son of former Bermuda Premier Ewart Brown, was taken into custody after the verdicts were read. He had been free on $4 million bond. He faces nearly 17 years in state prison when he returns Sept. 21 for sentencing by Judge Pastor.

The jury found Brown performed unnecessary breast and vaginal exams on eight of his patients, including a girl who was 15 at the time. The crimes occurred between 2003 and 2008.
He also was
found guilty of sexually assaulting an undercover female Los Angeles Police officer, who posed as a patient with an ankle injury. Brown was found guilty of pulling her top up and exposing her breasts as she was getting ready to leave.
The majority of the sexual assaults occurred at the Crenshaw Expo Medic Center at 3631 Crenshaw Blvd., where Brown practiced.
