CARLOS ARIAS DONIS: Lawndale Man Convicted of Machete Murder Sentenced

MacheteImage via WikipediaTORRANCE -- A Lawndale man was sentenced today to 27 years to life in prison for the 2010 machete attack on his roommates that left one dead and another seriously injured, the District Attorney’s office announced. Superior Court Judge Mark Arnold sentenced Carlos Arias Donis, 26, for his conviction last month on one count each of second-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated mayhem with a special allegation of causing great bodily injury, said Deputy District Attorney Donald Syn who prosecuted the case. Donis attacked two of his roommates living in a home in the 15300 block of Larch Avenue about 12:50 a.m. on Aug. 25, 2010. Fernando Garcia, 23, died at the scene. A second victim, 22, received serious head injuries. Donis, who worked as a gardener, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies after he fled the scene.
