Image via WikipediaTORRANCE – A Carson man convicted of the 2008 attempted murder of a Gardena police officer was sentenced today to life in prison, the District Attorney’s Office announced. Deputy District Attorney Lowell Anger said Trevon Willis, 24, was sentenced to 42 years to life, plus life in state prison. Torrance Superior Court Judge Steven R. Van Sicklen, who presided over the trial, imposed the sentence. Willis was convicted on Aug. 27, 2010, of one count each of first-degree attempted murder on a peace officer, assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. urors also found true allegations that Willis personally used and discharged a handgun causing great bodily injury and that the shooting was a gang crime.
