I wanted to give my readers an update on the condition of popular UCLA running back Derrick Coleman.

Derrick, a former standout athlete here from Troy High School in the Fullerton area, was wheeled off the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital as a precaution after being knocked out at the end of a 9-yard run early in the third quarter of UCLA’s loss to Stanford last Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.

Coleman regained consciousness and had movement and sensation in all his extremities, the school said.

He was tended to for several minutes before being taken off the field, it was scary to watch for the fans, friends, students, and family members of Derrick who were in the crowd.

Derrick was taken to a local hospital for precautionary tests and was diagnosed with a concussion
and sprained neck.

He will not be playing this coming Saturday when the Bruins (0-2) take on 23rd ranked University of Houston at the Rose Bowl.

Get well, Derrick!

GO BRUINS!
