MUSTARD SEED COMMUNITIES: Visited Jacobs Ladder. A world of amazement on this enchanted island nation

July 22, 2010
2 p.m. CST
Kingston, Jamaica

I just had a great lunch with Msgr. Gregory Ramkissoon, the Founder of the Mustard Seed Communities, and with the staff responsible for the day to day operation of this amazing organization day in and day out.

BTW: Lunch was delish. Pig Tail Stew. White Rice and Black Beans. I am now a big fan of "pig tail." Don't knock it till you tried it, Mahn.

Anyway....couple of quick updates. So far I have conducted over 24 interviews with the staff and leaders of the Mustard Seed Communities and with volunteer Missionaries from the United States.

I visited Jacobs Ladder around 80 miles from here (as the crow flies) yesterday and conducted an extensive tour of the nearly 100 acre facility that is located in lush green jungle like area.

Jacobs Ladder houses around 40 mentally challenged adults who are living on the grounds in beautiful bright colored houses. This place is totally self sustaining. It grows its own food, has its own irrigation (plumbing system), greenhouses with crops of peppers, tomatoes, yams, and on and on. It is a working farm beyond description. BTW. These are the BEST TOMATOES I have EVER tasted in my lift....and trust me....I have consumed tons of the red vine variety for eons.

Also conducted a great interview with Thyra Heaven, one of the most prominent leaders here in Jamaica for more than 30 years.  She is married to Ambassador Derick Heaven who is a former Member of Parliament  and Ambassador from this island country to China, Japan and Korea.

Ambassador Heaven is now the CEO of the Jamaican Sugar Company and they have raised literally millions of dollars on behalf of the Mustard Seed Communities over the years. What an honor, and what great insight she provided for our book and documentary.

More later.  Got another interview to run off too....
Ciao.
