NORWALK, CA-

Even though I am more than 5,000 miles away from Norwalk and Cerritos, California, (I continue my journey to the violent ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica), I wanted to post this news item about a crime that occurred less than 2 miles from my home back.

A 7-year-old boy was wounded by a stray bullet Wednesday as he played at Chet Hollyfield Park at the corner of Excelsior Drive and Bloomfield Avenue in Norwalk.  The shooting took place at around 7:40 p.m. yesterday.  This crime has been covered by the media all over California.

A group of people - believed to be gang members - were fighting across the street from the park when shots rang out, and today an innocent child is the victim of this nonsensical crime.

The two intended victims fled unharmed, but a stray bullet flew into the park and struck the young boy in the torso.

The boy was hospitalized in stable condition and was undergoing surgery late Wednesday.  If you know who did this shooting, do the right thing and call the Norwalk Sheriff's Department.
