3 p.m. UPDATE: Fifty Deputies, SWAT officers surrounding barricaded suspect at 15966 Algeciras in La Mirada; Nearby students evacuated to La Mirada High School

www.LosCerritosNews.net Man, what an afternoon here in La Mirada. Los Cerritos Community News was the FIRST on the scene to break this story today. I have also just been told from a source that the suspect may have lost a "lot of blood" and his condition is not known as of 2:19 p.m. EXCLUSIVE! 1:55 pm: Fifty Deputies, SWAT officers surrounding barricaded suspect at 15966 Algeciras in La Mirada; Nearby students evacuated to La Mirada High School Location where suspect is held up in La Mirada at 15966 Algeciras Randy Economy • Fri, Dec 02, 2011 Norwalk Sheriff’s Captain Pat Maxwell has told Los Cerritos Community News that the location where the suspect is being held up is 15966 Algeciras Street in La Mirada, immediately across the street from Los Coyotes Middle School. Los Cerritos Community News has also been told by Maxwell that all of the students who attend Los Coyotes have been successfully evacuated to La Mirada High School and are at the Gym. Parents can pick up students at LMHS. Maxwell said that more than 50 deputies and members of the SWAT Unit are on the scene and have not directly been in contact with the suspect. Maxwell said they are confident about who the suspect is, but are not going to release his name at this time. LIVE Update at 12:04 p.m. Los Cerritos Community News has been told that students from Los Coyotes Middle School are in the process of being evacuated and taken to a nearby park. Janet Winfrey lives on Mart Drive immediately behind the house where a suspect has been barricaded since 7:45 a.m. inside a home on the 14600 block of Mercado Avenue in La Mirada. Winfrey said the unidentified suspect being held “just started shooting a gun” and was seen “running wild around the neighborhood” before he retreated inside of his house. Winfrey also said that residents are not being allowed into the neighborhood by members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and that the situation is "very tense." "All of us who live here are scared and we can't get in or out of our neighborhood. 9 a.m. Original Post: Los Cerritos Community News can confirm that school officials at Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District ordered the school to be closed off at around 7:45 a.m. after members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a call about possible criminal activity in the immediate area. Officials inside the Superintendents Office at NLMUSD tell LCCN that "all the students are safe, and that no police activity is taking place on campus."  I got a phone call shortly after 8 a.m. this morning from Norwalk Public Safety Committee Member Mary Jane McIntosh who gave me and Los Cerritos Community News this tip about Los Coyotes Middle School in La Mirada being placed on "lock down" today.  Still working on detail.  Phones at Norwalk Sheriff's Station are going off the hook right now, so I haven't been able to talk directly to the Watch Commander.  Anyway, here is the "scoop" that is placed on our LCCN web edition this sunny Friday a.m.

Los Coyotes Middle School at 14640 Mercado Avenue in La Mirada has been placed on lock down due to law enforcement activity in a surrounding neighborhood.  
Los Cerritos Community News can confirm that school officials at Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District ordered the school to be closed off at around 7:45 a.m. after members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a call about possible criminal activity in the immediate area.
Officials inside the Superintendents Office at NLMUSD tell LCCN that "all the students are safe, and that no police activity is taking place on campus."
Los Coyotes Middle School is located near Rosecrans and Beach in La Mirada.
