NATALIE WOOD: Paging Dr. Thomas Noguchi. The murder case of "the 80's" is "BACK." Anyone wanna head over to the Marlin Club

I love going to Avalon.

Santa Catalina for all you folks outside of Southern California is our version of "backyard paradise."

I spent a tremendous amount of time 26 miles across the sea from Long Beach in the early and mid 1980's when I worked as the Public Information Officer for the City of Norwalk.

I got to be the very best of friends with then Avalon City Councilman and Mayor Gilbert Saldana and members of his family during the time when actress Natalie Wood died "mysteriously" after a night of partying aboard the board called "The Splendour."  Gilbert was the known as "America's Boy Mayor" since he was only 18 years old when he first got elected.  (More about Gilbert below....)
Natalie Wood was married to actor Robert Wagner.  She and Wagner and actor Christopher Walken went to Catalina and Avalon for the Thanksgiving Weekend and on Saturday night, November 28, Wood ended up in the water and drown.
It was a real like mystery that consumed the island for days, and weeks, and into the next year.  Skipper Dennis Davern worked for the couple for many years and was with the group for that weekend.  Is Dennis still around these days?  Is he the one who came forward with the "new revelation?"
When her body was found, she was wearing a down jacket, nightgown, and socks. A woman on a nearby yacht said she heard calls for help at around midnight. The cries lasted for about 15 minutes and were answered by someone else who said, "Take it easy. We'll be over to get you."
At the time Los Angeles Coroner, Dr. Thomas Nuguchi, stated, "Natalie Wood died from "axidentol dwowding" also known as "accidental drowning."  the "Guch" always had a way for words back then, and well, he literally got ran out of town after this case was "officially closed."  Noguchi was the "Coroner to The Stars."  He oversaw the Robert F. Kennedy death case, the Marilyn Monroe death, and one of the most famous Hollywood murder cases that took the life of actress Sharon Tate and several others by the now infamous "Charles Manson Family."
Today LA County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators were contacted by persons who stated they had additional information about the Wood drowning, and voila, her murder mystery case is "officially reopened."
Catalina is a postage sized speck  in a very large pond.  I remember spending days and nights talking about "the murder" of Natalie Wood.  Yep.  I said "murder" not "death."  You see, in Avalon, everyone knows everyone else's secrets.
This will be a total "trip" back in time. I wonder what the locales at The Marlin Club are thinking tonight. Break out the old "t-shirts" and "Natalie Wood" joke books.  The media circus is heading BACK to "the island."  Noguchi is still alive.  He is now 84 years old and works as the President of the World Association for Medical Law.  I am going to call him on Friday after I drop my pal Gilbert a note tonight.  Gilbert is on another island these days called Maui. Yep.  Nothing has changed in Catalina in decades.
What is that number for "Catalina Express...."
