Lakewood man with an aluminum
baseball bat at a
Walmart store was charged with murder by the
District Attorney’s Office today. Richard Lawrence Kalfin, 47 (dob 8/12/64), is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 3 of Bellflower
Superior Court. Kalfin is charged in case No. VA122281 with one count of murder with an
allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and
dangerous weapon, a bat. The
charging document additionally alleges that Kalfin was convicted of arson of property on Aug. 18, 2005. Kalfin allegedly attacked David Oakleaf on Nov. 1 as the man shopped. The fatal beating was unprovoked, the prosecutor said. Bail for the defendant is recommended at $1.08 million. Kalfin faces a maximum state prison term of 57 years to life, if convicted as charged. The
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
