JUAN CARLOS CRUZ: Former TV Chef Sentenced in Solicitation of Murder Case of his wife. Given 9 years in state prison!

LOS ANGELES – A former Food Network chef who pleaded no contest to soliciting two homeless men to kill his wife was sentenced to state prison today, the District Attorney’s Office announced.
Airport Superior Court Judge H. Chester Horn sentenced Juan Carlos Cruz, 48, to nine years in state prison. One count of attempted murder was dismissed at sentencing.Cruz entered his plea on Oct. 26 just as his preliminary hearing was set to begin.Cruz, who hosted a show four years ago on the Food Network, was arrested in May by Santa Monica Police following an investigation into allegations that he approached two homeless men and offered them $500 to kill his wife.One of the men contacted the Santa Monica Police Department. Police set up a sting and videotaped Cruz arranging the murder with the men, including driving one to his apartment and showing him how to access the secure building. Deputy District Attorney Simone Shay of the Airport Branch Office prosecuted the case.
