EDWARD and HOPE GARCIA: Couple Charged in Downtown Murder, Dismemberment Case of Herbert Tracy White

LOS ANGELES – A Pennsylvania couple charged with special circumstance murder in connection with the slaying and dismemberment of a man in a downtown Los Angeles hotel appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court today. Edward Garcia Jr, 36 (dob 5/9/74), and Melissa Hope Garcia, 25 (dob 2/5/85), are charged with one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation that the murder was intentional and involved the infliction of torture. The defendants appeared for arraignment, but it was postponed until Jan. 5 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice System. The defendants are charged in case No. BA378772, filed for warrant on Dec. 7. The married couple is accused of killing and dismembering victim Herbert Tracy White, 50, on or about Nov. 28 at the Continental Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The District Attorney’s Office will decide at a later time whether to seek the death penalty against the defendants. If convicted as charged, the defendants face death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
