Holy smoke.  What a horrific Sunday afternoon in the tony enclave of Belmont Shores in Long Beach.
One man is dead after being shot and killed by member(s) of the Long Beach Police Department.

Here are the details of the wild afternoon along the famous Ocean Boulevard. On Sunday, December 12, 2010, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Long Beach Police Officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of East Ocean Boulevard regarding a report of a person with a gun.

When officers arrived, they observed a male adult believed to be armed with a handgun and took a tactical position of cover. While waiting for backup officers to arrive, an officer involved shooting occurred. The subject was struck in the torso area.
 
The subject was immediately handcuffed and treated by Long Beach Fire Department
In addition to the Long Beach Police Department's ongoing investigation, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is also conducting an independent investigation, which is routine for all officer-involved shootings in Los Angeles County.
 
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to call the Long Beach Police Department’s Homicide Detectives Todd Johnson or Malcom Evans at (562) 570-7244. paramedics; however, the subject was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in this incident. 

Do you live in this neighborhood?  Did you see what happened?  The name of the victim has not be released.  As soon as his name is made available, I will pass it along to my readers.  Also, do you feel safe living in Long Beach these days?  His my comment section.  SOUND OFF!  A man went on television news channels late Sunday night and said that the victim was his "son."  I am not going to identify the victim till official word comes from the LA County Coroner's Office on Monday.
