SANTA FE SPRINGS -
We now know the name of that 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot in that horrific car-to-car shooting on Wednesday morning at Marquardt Road and Rosecrans Avenue right off the Santa Ana (5 Freeway).
The victim has been id ed as John Estrada from the city of Lakewood. The young Estrada was pronounced dead at a local hospital in Orange County right before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The shooting took place on the 5 Freeway between Marquardt Road and Rosecrans Avenue, on the boarder of Cerritos, Santa Fe Springs and La Mirada. This is an "industrial area" and is actually located less than a mile from my house here on the Eastside of Cerritos. This is normally a pretty "quiet" part of our community during that time of night...especially on a Wednesday night....
According to law enforcement reports, three people were traveling in the car that Estrada was driving in, including a 32-year-old man and a 21-year-old man both from Whittier. They were driving inside a minivan.
The two others were wounded but are expected to pull through and make a full recovery.
There is no motive for this crime, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of John Estrada. Keep all of their families in your prayers this holiday season.
