Police are looking for the person or persons responsible for the murder of popular El Monte community leader Hector Urias.
Urias, 48, was found shot to death inside his auto repair shop Urias Auto Repair at 3548 Santa Anita Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Early in the investigation, law officials did not rule out the possibility of a suicide, but tonight they are convinced that Urias was indeed murdered.
Urias was a noted race car driver. Several You Tube posts show him doing what he loved best...going fast and competing in his super modified VW's.
Urias is the second popular public figure from El Monte to be murdered within the past year. During this past New Years holiday, El Monte School Board Member Augustin "Bobby" Salcedo was gunned down in Mexico by members of a Mexican drug cartel on a family vacation.
Urias was also a popular supporter of youth sports, and was a noted athlete.
He and his wife recently became parents to a new adopted six-month old baby. I send my thoughts and prayers to his beloved family and many many friends!
