MATT BARNES BUSTED!: BREAKING NEWS: LAKER MATT BARNES ARRESTED IN SACRAMENTO ON FELONY DOMESTIC CHARGES. WTHeck?

Say it ain't so, Matt.

Former UCLA Basketball star and now LA Laker Matt Barnes was tossed in the Sacramento County Jail Wednesday afternoon on felony domestic violence charges.

Here are the details:
  • Sacramento sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call around 4:16 p.m. from a residence in the 8100 block of Sunset Avenue.
  • Barnes, 30, and a woman he lives with had been involved in a physical confrontation, during which Barnes prevented the woman from talking to 911 operators according to law enforcement officials.

  • Barnes and the woman, who he's involved in a dating relationship with, had visible injuries.
  • Barnes was held on a $50,000 bond.
  • Barnes was the primary aggressor, according to a preliminary investigation.
  •  Barnes faces two  felony charges:
    • Domestic violence and 
    • Maliciously Obstructing the use of a telephone line.
  •  After posting his bond, Barnes was released at around 9:30 p.m.
  • Barnes is due in Court for Arraignment on September 13th.

Barnes is a former standout with the UCLA Bruins, and the Orlando Magic.  He recently joined the World Champion LA Lakers.  No comment from the Lakers at this time.  As soon as they do, I will post it here!

Barnes, a seven-year NBA veteran, appeared in 81 games (58 starts) last season with Orlando, averaging 8.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 25.9 minutes while posting five double-doubles and leading the Magic in scoring six times, in rebounds on four occasions and in assists twice.

Originally selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round (46th overall pick) of the 2002 NBA Draft, Barnes has averaged 7.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 444 career games (162 starts).

A 6’7” forward, Barnes played four seasons collegiality at UCLA where he became the 43rd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points and helped the Bruins reach the NCAA Sweet 16 in each of his last three seasons.
