EUREKA, Calif. --

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake centered in the Pacific Ocean west of Eureka hit this morning at around 5:05 a.m.


The U.S. Geological Survey preliminary computer generated report shows the epicenter 54 miles west of Eureka, which is 270 miles north of San Francisco in Humboldt County.
