KERN COUNTY, CA
Tonight, Kern County is beginning to look like "hell on earth" as two wild fires are burning out of control, destroying everything in its path.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proclaimed a state of emergency in Kern County as a result of the Bull Fire in the Sequoia National Forest and the West Fire in Tehachapi which combined have burned over 15,000 acres, destroyed dozens of homes and caused the evacuation of more than 2,300 people in the area.
The Governor signed an executive order which mobilized the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and other state agencies to secure and deploy the additional resources and personnel that are necessary to save lives and protect homes statewide from wildfires.
"The circumstances of these wildfires, by reason of their magnitude, are or are likely to be beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment and facilities of any single county, city and county, or city and require the combined forces of a mutual aid region or regions to combat," Schwarzenegger proclaimed on Tuesday night.
