UPDATE AT 9:35 p.m.: WEST FIRE BURNS OUT OF CONTROL IN TEHACHAPI. 20 structures already destroyed, 150 more in danger.

UPDATE ON WEST FIRE AT 9:34 p.m.
FROM KERN COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT

The fire is currently threatening 150 structures with approximately 20 destroyed by the fire. At this time we are recommending all residents to evacuate the area. A shelter for residents is currently being set up at Old Jacobs Jr. High School 126 Synder Dr. Tehachapi.


The fire is estimated to be at 400 acres.... Approximately 50 firefighter are fighting the fire with more resources enroute to the incident.

A major fire has broken out in the High Desert area of Tehachapi, around 100 miles northwest of Downtown Los Angeles in Kern County.

It is being called the "West Fire" and it has already burned 400 acres and destroyed more than 20 structures and more than 150 more homes are in danger of being burnt to the ground.

TEHACHAPI, CA –

The Kern County Fire Department received a call for a vegetation fire near the Old West Ranch community, southeast of Tehachapi.

The fire is currently threatening 150 structures with approximately 20 destroyed by the fire. At this time we are recommending all residents to evacuate the area. A shelter for residents is currently being set up at Old Jacobs Jr. High School 126 Synder Ave. in Tehachapi.

The fire is estimated to be at 400 acres. Approximately 50 firefighters are fighting the fire with more resources en route to the incident.
