Artesia, CA:
(Where Everyday is a Good Day....!)

Six residents have applied to fill the current vacancy on the Artesia City Council.

The Artesia City Council decided a couple of weeks ago to appoint a person to fill the unexpired term of former Council member Larry R. Nelson. Nelson who passed away on May 1.

The appointed person will finish the rest of Nelson’s term, which ends November 8, 2011.  Those would will be considered are:
  •  William "Bill" Zylstra
  • Michelle Diaz, Planning Commissioner
  • Zeke Marquez
  • Manu Patel, Businessman
  • Joyce Yeutter, City Commissioner
  • Endu Padel
The Artesia City Council will be meeting on next Thursday, May 27th at 6:30 at the Artesia City Hall Council Chambers at 18747 Clarkdale Avenue to review these applicants and to select one of them for the Council position.

The City Council is requesting that applicants sign a pledge to abide by a code of ethics and may also seek a pledge not to run for election to the City Council after the expiration of their appointed term.

Of course, these type of "don't run pledges" are not binding and or legal in a court of law.

Anyone who is appointed to this city council seat is entitled to run for the position in November of 2011, period.

I hope the best person gets the job, Artesia needs and deserves a full time leader, not a token "place holder."

These pledges not to run are really shameful.
