Hartford. –

Talk about a "political body slam!"  No incumbent or "political insider" is safe in 2010. Period!

Former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon captured  the GOP Party endorsement Friday night in the first round of balloting at the State Republican Party Convention tonight.

Mc Mahon, defeated early front runner and longtime Connecticut GOP insider pol ex. Rep. Rob Simmons.

Simmons, who is politically beaten up tonight by Mc Mahon, is not taking his defeat sitting down on the mat, so to speak.

He announced that he will stay in the Aug. 10 primary despite telling the press throughout the race, and as recently as Wednesday, that he would drop out of the race if he didn't receive the party's nod at the convention.

Trust me, you don't wanna mess with Linda Mc Mahon.

I first met Linda back in the early 1990's when I worked as the Director of Sales at Viewer's Choice Pay Per View, and she and her ex-hubby Vince Mc Mahon oversaw the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) which then became the World Wrestling Entertainment.    I use to work with the Mc Mahon's and on events like "WrestleMania" and "Smack down" and other mega arena events that would bring in $50,000,000 per pay per view event.

McMahon’s win and Simmons’ announcement set Republicans up for a contentious primary this summer, just days after a damaging New York Times report about the presumed Democratic nominee Richard Blumenthal misrepresenting his record of military service appeared to aid Republican hopes of claiming the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Chris Dodd (D).

McMahon received 737 votes, Simmons received 632 votes and businessman Peter Schiff had 44 votes after the first round of ballots. According to state party convention rules, a candidate must receive over 50 percent to receive the party’s endorsement and McMahon had almost 52 percent of the vote.

So, get ready to rumble.

Ah, sorry.

This campaign in Connecticut is going to get really nasty and fun to watch from the comfort of your living room!
