Los Angeles:
Law enforcement officials here in Los Angeles County are celebrating the arrest of two nationally wanted criminals in cases coordinated with both the Sheriff's Department and the United States Marshall Office.

In the first arrest, a man wanted in connection with a double homicide in Detroit was arrested in Gardena on last Friday, March 19 at about  9:00 a.m.

Acting on information provided by Detroit Police, Deputy U.S. Marshals and Operation Safe Streets Bureau sheriff's deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, arrested Suspect Derrick Smith near 146th and Normandy, Gardena.

Smith, 42,  is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility of the Los Angeles County jail. He is wanted in connection with the homicide of a woman and her boyfriend in Detroit on March 1, 2010. The woman's two daughters ages eight and six were in the home hiding at the time of the shooting, and the  eight year old girl's 911 phone call has been heavily publicized.

In the other case that was arrest coordinated with the US Marshall's Office, a man wanted in connection with a double torture-homicide in New Jersey was arrested in Paramount this past Tuesday, March 16.

Acting on information provided by Camden Police, Deputy U.S. Marshals and Operation Safe Streets Bureau sheriff's deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, arrested Suspect Kuasheim Powell in a home in the 15000 block of Orange Avenue in  Paramount. Powell is being held at the North County Correctional Facility of the Los Angeles County jail.

The 24 year-old Powell was wanted in connection with the homicides and torture of a young couple in a home in Camden, New Jersey, on February 22, 2010. Powell is the 10th person to be charged in connection with the killings. Four of the suspects are minors.

So, you can run, but you cannot hide from the long arm of the law...especially when the Sheriff is Lee Baca!
