Sergio Martinez: Latest shooting death in La Mirada sends more grief to community, schools, friends

RIP: Sergio Martinez, 16, La Mirada, CA
By Randy Economy
This is breaking my heart.  We lost another 16 year old child here in our community this week due to gun violence.  It is time for ALL COMMUNITY LEADERS to come together as ONE...to come up with a plan to help stop the killings here in Norwalk, La Mirada, Hawaiian Gardens, Artesia, Cerritos, Buena Park and Bellflower.
The latest victim to die is Sergio Martinez, a Sophomore from La Mirada High School who was shot while standing in his drive way this past Sunday night.
I have a article in this weekends Los Cerritos Community Newspaper, and La Mirada Lamplighter about this senseless killing.   I will keep informing "my community" about each and every death at the hands of others until one day, by the Grace of God, it ends.
Here is the latest.....
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male Hispanic juvenile, which occurred this past Sunday night on the 13200 block of Duffield Avenue, La Mirada.
Sergio Martinez, a 16 year student from La Mirada High School has been identified as the victim of the crime, the La Mirada Lamplighter has learned.
Detectives said that Martinez was standing in the driveway of his residence when several unknown suspects approached him on foot, and fired several rounds at him, striking him once in the upper torso.
Martinez was transported to a local hospital where he passed away from his injuries.
His death is the second in two weeks from students who attend Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Schools.
