VAN NUYS – A 25-year-old
Burbank man was charged today in the fatal stabbing of his estranged girlfriend, the
District Attorney’s Office announced.
Stephen Todd Joanou, Jr. (DOB 08/15/86) is charged in case No. LA070501 with the murder of Patrina Sabella, 32. The complaint also alleges that the
defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a sharp object, when he committed the murder.
The defendant appeared in court today for arraignment in front of
Commissioner Mitchell Block, but the hearing was postponed for a later date. Arraignment is now scheduled for April 12 in Department 100 of
Van Nuys Superior Court.
The victim’s body was found in
North Hollywood’s Weddington Park during the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 20.
The defendant was arrested by
Los Angeles Police Department officers the next day and remains in custody on $1.045 million bail.
The
criminal complaint includes prior felony drug convictions in 2009 and 2007 and a felony conviction of grand theft person in 2010.
If convicted, Joanou faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.
