President Fidel Ramos: Former Philippines President visit to Cerritos recalls the historic "People's Revolution"

Former Philippines President Fidel V. Ramos hit the magical Cerritos Library on Monday night as he continued his 17-day trip to the United States to promote his Biography "Trustee Of The Nation" with a rousing reception and dialogue.

Several area elected officials, influential members of the greater Southern California Filipino-American community also packed the Skylight Room at the Cerritos Civic Center.

The former Chief Executive of the island nation, who is now in his mid-80's said he was thrilled to be in a community with "so many friends, and family members who now live in Cerritos, and who represent all of us from The Philippines so proudly"

Ramos talked openly and candidly about his upbringing, and about the famed "Peoples Revolution" that gripped the worlds attention nearly a generation ago. He sat next to Cerritos City Councilman Mark Pulido who is the first person of Philippine ancestry to ever be elected to the local governmental municipal body.

Pulido said that he "watched as a child each night to see the Peoples Revolution unfold" and it was "beyond his wildest dreams that he would "one day be with you Mr. President here in our community that has so many of your countrymen and women living here."

The books author Dr. Scott Thompson, a retired Professor Emeritus of the Fletcher School of Tufts University also spoke about the access and "availability" to "years and years" of pubic and private records on the former popular President in his preparation of the publication.

Ramos was giddy at times during his 30 minute talk and joked about the beauty and shear size of the Cerritos Library.

"This is the most beautiful library I have ever seen. Can't even imagine how much it cost, and if this was Manila this would be better than the Presidential Palace," Ramos said.

The event was hosted by Cerritos City Councilman Mark Pulido and his wife Gloria Perlas Pulido along with a cadre of prominent Filipino-American leaders from throughout the Cerritos area.
