One suspect outstanding; Victim in stable condition

One man has been hospitalized after being stabbed at least once on Sunday evening over a dispute over recyclable cardboard in Cerritos.
According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Watch Commander G. Deedrick with the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station, a call was received at 6:26 p.m. that two men were involved in both a “loud verbal and physical altercation” in the middle of the street at the 18300 Block of Vickie Avenue.
When Deputies arrived, they found one victim lying in the road with at least one stab wound to the lower back.
Deedrick said it appears that the victim and suspect are both transients, and not residents of Cerritos, and both had been interested in obtaining the “recyclable cardboard at the same location” when they both got into a verbal and “aggressive argument.” The cardboard had been placed on the curb in anticipation of Monday’s scheduled trash pick-up in this section of Cerritos.
The victim, whose name or city of residence has not been released, was rushed to an area hospital where he is in stable condition. Deedrick confirmed that the victim was a 44 year old white male but would not elaborate further.
