VAN NUYS – A North Hollywood man suspected of setting a string of fires to vehicles and motor homes in North Hollywood was charged today with 21 counts of arson, the District Attorney’s office announced.
Kurt Kaye Billie, 34 (dob 5-11-77), is scheduled to be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. at Van Nuys Superior Court, Department 100. He is charged in case LA068527 with 20 counts of felony arson and one count of felony aggravated arson, said Deputy District Attorney Sean Carney with the Target Crimes Unit. Billie is being held on $2 million bail.
Billie, a former Marine convicted of arson in Okinawa, Japan, was arrested Tuesday by Los Angeles Police, who conducted the investigation along with the Los Angeles City Fire Department’s Arson Division. He is suspected of setting a series of fires to vehicles and four motor homes on July 21, July 24 and Aug. 2 in the North Hollywood area. Some of the fires spread to adjacent inhabited structures, including apartment buildings.
If convicted, he’s facing up to life in prison.
