Late Saturday evening, a representative of the Linearis Institute reported the
theft of a piece of artwork by artist
Rembrandt van Rijn, from an exhibit in the lobby of the
Ritz-Carlton Hotel on
Admiralty Way

Marina del Rey. The artwork known as "The Judgment," was done in
quill pen and ink, is about 10 inches by 6 inches, and is dated circa 1655. It is valued at approximately $250,000. Detectives from the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station of the
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, are investigating the theft, which occurred during an art exhibit at the location. The theft occurred when a curator was distracted by another person between 10:20 and 10:35 p.m., August 13th. "Our detectives are reviewing the hotel security video for information identifying those involved," said Steve Whitmore, Sheriff's Department
Public Information Officer. "The hotel has top quality security. We believe this was a well-thought out and well-planned theft," he said.
