Share your thoughts at the bottom of this blog post.  Also, I would like to know more details about the victim, Joseph Rubacalva.  I was one of the first reporters in Los Angeles County to break the details of this situation.  I have included the original post just hours after the body of Mr. Rubacalva at the end of this blog.

WHITTIER -- A Pico Rivera man was charged today with the murder of a 19-year-old man whose body was found in a shallow grave in the suspect’s backyard, the District Attorney’s office announced.
Robert Charles Redd, 51 (dob 1-18-60), is scheduled to be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. at Whittier Superior Court, Department 1. He was charged in case VA120863 with one count of murder with the special allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a handgun, said Deputy District Attorney Rosabella Reyes. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Redd allegedly shot Joseph Rubalcava once in the head on or about July 18 and buried his body in the backyard of Redd’s residence in the 8500 block of Pico Vista Road. The victim’s family went searching for the missing man two days later and called authorities when they discovered the grave.
If convicted, Redd is facing 25 years to life in prison.

I've known Joseph for a long time . My family and I met him through my brother. He was always respectful and kind. I would refer Joseph as my brother when introducing or mentioning him to others. My condolences to his family. You are forever in my thoughts, Joseph.

I met Joseph 7yrs ago, thru my little sister, he was only 12 yrs old , the most adorable lil boy, with big hazel eyes and a big smile! As the years went on, we became very close, our familys included, he became my little brother, and my confidant, I love him and his family dearly, they are so special to me. And I hurt for them, I hate to see them in such pain, since this happened, I will never forget him, I will never get used to not seeing him every other day, or seeing calls from him on my phone, or cooking a nice meal for him, because for a lil guy, he could eat! :) my son is too young to understand the concept of Joseph passing away, but he loved him so much! He would just get the hugest smile on his face when he would come over, and cry for him when he left , joseph was , so intelligent! I'm 24yrs old, and he would teach me things! Lol he was book smart, soo funny, and so lovable. I will always remember you Jos, you mean so much to me and my family. You are forever staying in my Heart, my life is so different without u.but I know you are happy where you are right now, where, no pain, misery or sorrow can touch you, pure joy ,peace and happiness, and that comforts me, please watch over your mom jos, she's so sad without you, she loves u so much. Rest in peradise Joseph. I love you my little love.

The family and friends of Joseph Rubalcava would like to ask for your help. His passing was unexpected and his family could use all the help they can. They have set up a bank account in honor of Joseph. We would like to ask for any donations possible. The smallest amount of money would make a big difference. It is through Wells Fargo Bank In Memorial of Joseph Rubalcava and the account number is 9297746258. The family would like to thank you in advance for your loving help. Please repost this as we are hoping to gather enough funds for his funeral expenses. Thank you once again.

Being born and raised in Pico...Was it drug or ganster related?...

I know a lot of details about this case, and I can't believe that people are painting Joseph to be an angel. I don't believe anyone deserves to be murdered, but people also don't deserve to have their house taken over, they don't deserve to get tied up and beaten up, they don't deserve to get taunted by a 19 year old gang member waving a gun around and selling drugs out of their own house! I am really hurt and upset by not getting to hear the real story, but I have heard enough from detectives to know that Joseph is no angel!!! He was a criminal and was a wanted murderer himself. He had KILL RIVERA tattooed across his forehead. I think that speaks for itself.

First of all I would like to say how convinient this anonymous business is for all the people who have nothing but ignorent shit to say, secondly, the person who anonomously posted on October 15th, just proved to most of the residence of pico rivera and my self! What pieces of shits most of the pico rivera sheriffs/detectives are, for the simple fact that their sharing personal and confidential information, to someone who has nothing to do with this case, or Joseph, Period! So you know a lot about the case? So you know that Robert charles redds house was already a drug house before he even knew joseph! Ask your buddys at the police department, and if Joseph was doing all those things to robert redd, why didn't the piece of shit call the police on him, and put him in prison for a long time! He had plenty of chances, joseph wasn't there 24/7 I know for a fact! And as for you saying that Joseph was no 'ANGEL', who is??? We know what joseph was, we can't sit here and deny that he wasn't troubled, but Regardless of the crimes he supposably commited, which was never murder, suddenly he's gone, and he's a murderer?, if this was the case why didn't the cops hunt him down and arrest him?! He was always in pico, That's because he wasn't a murderer, and they know it. he didn't deserve to die the way he did, and just because he was no 'ANGEL' doesn't mean he had no good qualitys, because he had many, so what do u expect, for us to come on here and post comments. And speak poorly of him? NO, we love him and were thankful for all the good times and laughs that boy gave us! He had a good heart! He was just troubled by some obsticles , and pain he had gone thru in life, that affected his ways. Its so funny that you people are taking a MURDERERS word into consideration, instead of trying to figure out what really happened, because no matter what, no kid should have died from a bullet to the head, especially while he wasn't looking, that's what articles fail to mention, he was shot on the top of his head, which means he wasn't expecting at all, which means there's no way this was self defense or anything like it! So for to you come on here, and try to say you , know lots of details about this case, make sure you REALLY KNOW. Some of these pico cops are a gang themselves, and they'll. Do anything so that justice won't be served, but we have God on our side, and the truth about EVERYTHING will come out in time! Rest in PEACE Joseph we love you! We miss you!

I'm sorry if my old post from October was offensive, but I am also hurting very, very badly over this and so is my little sister. Addiction is a horrible disease, and sadly I know all too well about that home being a drug house starting way back to the 80s and mid 90s, and I can only imagine what it was like when my dad moved there again. We hardly spoke, it was as though I didn't know him ior recognize him. I saw my dad once in two years and that was enough to tell me what the situation was. When I wrote my comment before was out of anger and frustration. I'm hurt by both parties, especially my father. I wish I knew more, but everything I've heard paints a very ugly tale and it makes me so glad that I was in treatment myself when this all happened. Thank God I am still clean to this day. I am doing well and working, I graduated from college, but I have a huge hole in my heart because I really lost my dad this time. When I was a young child my dad was a different man, and I miss him so much. I pray for all the family's in my hometown of Pico, I pray that all of the people struggling with addiction will find NA and AA, or even better truly build a relationship with God. God can work miracles, you just have to put your faith and trust in him. It is so important to have a personal relationship with Christ.

Drugs destroy lives, families and will land you six feet under, institutionalized, or locked up. This terrible event has left two families broken and hurt, and I really hope people will learn from this. Even though it is hard to even think about, I hope to hear what truly happened. I know when drugs are mixed in large amounts, it can truly change people in terrible ways. Why 911 wasn't called is an easy question for me, when gangs, drugs, and criminals are involved, the last thing anyone wants to do is call the police. Being a rat is not a good thing to be known as, there are terrible consequences. The other option of calling 911 isn't so ideal either, cops will lie, falsely charge people, make up events for their notes, steal your belongings, and belittle you in any way possible. Of course there are some great police officers, but let's get real and look at the facts.
Anyways, there is so much social stigma against addicts, that is why it is so hard for them to even admit they need help. It is a really heartbreaking epidemic, no one is talking about the meth problem, and it is beyond serious in So Cal, why is it being kept so quiet?? It took me five years to get clean, it wasn't easy, but if I could help just one person I would. If anyone has any suggestions on how to male the public acknowledge the meth epidemic please let Me know. I am certain without a doubt that meth is the #1 cause of 80% of criminal behavior like violence, domestic abuse, stealing, identity theft, etc. That is my estimate, for all I know it could be Much more.

How many more children have to lose their parents? How many families have to bury a loved one? When is someone going to speak up about this major epidemic in So Cal.

I'm sorry about my message before, it was written out of anger and hurt. I apologize, it was wrong of me to become so defensive because my heart aches as well. I can't hear from my dad what is going on and it hurts. I know about the 80s and mid 90's about my dad's house being where a lot of addicts hung out. My dad didn't move back to Pico until after he and my mother separated. I only saw my dad once after two years, and I never went to see him at his house. I was in treatment when this tragedy occurred, and I have so many questions. I feel terrible for the heartache Joseph's family is going through, I am also hurting the loss of ever having a dad again. I prayed for my dad's recovery all my life, I had some really great years with him, and some very painful years. Mostly extremely painful. As an addict myself, I know it is very difficult to get clean, but it is possible if you change your friends, where you hangout, give up old habits, and focus on healthy habits as well as build a strong relationship with Christ.

To hear about where Joseph was shot leaves me devastated, and it contradicts things I have heard. I have been praying for Joseph's family and friends, as well as my little sister. Two families ripped apart over something most likely drug related..... It is heart breaking and it didn't have to happen.

All I have left to say is after this tragedy occured, I stayed in treatment and have been clean and sober since July 1, 2011. I don't want to be another statistic that dies, goes to prison, or gets commited to an institution. I graduated from college and my life is so different today. I struggled for five years to get clean, but this tragedy made me open my eyes to the reality of the life I was living.

The meth epidemic in So Cal is out of control. I know it has to be the main cause of a wide variety of crimes. When is someone going to raise awareness to this terrible epidemic??? It is creating murder, violence, domestic abuse, child endangerment, people are risking their health as well as sexual health, there are home invasions and a large amount of identity theft. The meth epidemic is beyond serious at this point, this tragedy alone tells a story of what that life brings.
