What an awful day in Irvine yesterday. A tony, quiet upscale neighborhood in the "perfect" community of one of the most beautiful parts of Orange County became a scene out of one of those "CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION" episodes. This drama played out for hours...
Shortly after 2:00 PM, The Irvine Police Department received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 18000 block of Via Sienna in the Turtle Rock area of Irvine. Officers responded to the scene and found a woman down, the victim of the gunfire. The Orange County Fire Authority also responded to treat the victim at the scene but the victim succumbed to the injures.
Image via WikipediaThe Irvine Police Department flooded the area with Patrol and Tactical officers as well as Detectives. A perimeter was set to search for the suspect and the area was closed for several hours during the search. Information was also sent to residents inside the perimeter via iAlert, a system that can dial into residential land lines, warning them of the danger and asking them to remain in their homes.The drama played out on television sets all over the OC and in So Ca and it was THE TOP NEWS ITEM on DRIVE TIME NEWS RADIO in SO CA.
During the incident, there were employees at the nearby elementary school that initiated a lock-down until police could safely evacuate them from the area. There were no students at the school during the incident.
Irvine Detectives were able to develop information regarding the identity of the suspect and were able to locate and arrest 35 year-old John Rand Agosta of Orange, who is the estranged husband of the victim. Details regarding the motive for this homicide are still under investigation.
The Victim is 29 year-old Alejandra Hernandez of Orange and is an employee of a private daycare center adjacent to the elementary school near where the shooting took place.
