One suspect is at large, and a Cerritos neighborhood near Stowers Elementary School was placed on lock down for a few hours Tuesday afternoon after a car was stolen from a nearby business parking lot.

Immediately after the call was dispatched into the field, an attentive Cerritos Deputy recognized the stolen car that was described as a 2005 Nissan Sentra, and a short pursuit took place near the area of Artesia Boulevard and Carmenita Road.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic male, age 30 to 35, approximately 6’ to 6 ft. 3 abandoned the stolen vehicle he fled into a neighborhood located in the area of Pires Avenue, Beach Street and Carmenita Road.

According to Sheriff’s spokesman J. Deedrick, 16 deputies from Cerritos, Norwalk and Lakewood converged on the scene to look for the suspect.   One K-9 unit and two helicopters were also involved in the hunt for the suspect.

Deputies went door to door, and as of 6:38 p.m., no suspect had been located.
