SAN FERNANDO

Remember that former high school teacher that was accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage student pleaded several months back at a Christian school in the San Fernando Valley last year?

Well, today, the District Attorney’s Office announced that Mark Stephen Hubbard, 51, pleaded no contest to one count each of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and sodomy of a person under 18.

Hubbard also pleaded to eight counts of oral copulation of a person under 18. Commissioner Jeffrey Harkavy said Hubbard will be sentenced on April 1 in Dept. D of San Fernando Superior Court. Hubbard is expected to be sentenced to nine years in state prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for life, under the terms of a negotiated settlement.

The crimes occurred between April and November 2010 and involved one victim, according to the charging document. The defendant was employed at Hillcrest Christian School in Granada Hills where the victim was a student.

Deputy District Attorney Laura Knight Jackson of the San Fernando Branch Office prosecuted this case.  W2G, Laura!

I got a lot of email and comments from people who know Hubbard, and most of them were divided if he was innocent or guilty.  Praying for both Mr. Hubbard and his victims.  Let's keep everyone in this case in your thoughts today.  Hit my comment section below if you want to "sound off."
