John Sohus, 27, was last seen in early 1985. Shortly after his disappearance, the man calling himself Christopher Chichester who lived in the Sohus family guest house behind their San Marino home also vanished. Investigators later identified Chichester as Gerhartsreiter.

In May 1994, a body was discovered buried in the backyard of the Sohus home on Lorain Road. The remains were later identified as those of John Sohus. An investigation determined he was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.

Homicide detectives from the Sheriff’s Department investigated the case. Balian will ask that bail be set at $10 million for Gerhartsreiter when he’s arraigned.

If convicted, he faces 26 years to life in prison.
