Deep in the Heart of Texas

Congratulations are in order for former Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of the Great State of Texas who "earned" a three-year prison sentence on money laundering charges.

Ol' Tom, a former standout on "Dancing With The Stars."   He has earned my first "Political Pirate of the Year Award" for 2011.

Tom DeLay in the Big BuyImage by Steve Rhodes via FlickrDeLay, who was forced to step down as majority leader in 2005 after he was indicted on the state charges, has long denied any wrongdoing. He is appealing his conviction.  I guess you can say he is trying to "de-lay" the inevitable, a long term in jail.

Texas State Judge Pat Priest sentenced DeLay earlier today for the three-year term on conspiracy, and then accepted 10 years of probation in lieu of a five-year prison term on the money laundering charge.

So, congrats Tom!  Your crimes and misdeeds have earned a "place" in my heart for this new year that isn't even 11 days old.
