A quiet upscale neighborhood in Downey was rocked with violence early this morning, sending a shock wave to residents.

A nightclub owner was gunned down in a "possible home invasion" robbery on the 9300 Block of Gainford Avenue in Downey.

He has been id ed by the Coroners Office as Hermilio Franco, age 53.

Here are the details:
  • At around 2:50 a.m. this morning, law enforcement responded to a "possible prowler" call and shots fired in the 9300 block of Gainford Avenue. 

  • When the arrived officers were told by family members that there were intruders inside the home.

    Officers entered and found Franco dead on the floor with a fatal gunshot wound.
The main "possible" suspect was also found inside the house with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local area hospital with "serious" wounds, but is expected to live.

Media reports that the victim comes from a large family with several family members living at the location.
