The City of Long Beach, California, and the Lo...Image via WikipediaLONG BEACH – A Long Beach teenager was sentenced today to more than 200 years in state prison for the gang-related murder of another youth.
Deputy District Attorney Patrick Frey of the Hardcore Gang Division said Jason Trejo, 16, was sentenced to a term of 212 years to life. Long Beach Superior Court Judge J.D. Lord ordered the defendant to pay $7,500 in restitution to the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board for burial expenses.

Trejo was convicted on July 27 of the first-degree murder of Florentino Rivera on Jan. 6, 2008. He additionally was convicted of four counts of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder and one count of assault with a firearm.

Trejo and co-defendant Eric Antonio Benites, 17, killed Rivera to avenge the murder of Benites’ younger brother, Jose Cano, 13. Cano was killed in June 2007 by rival gang members.

Benites was convicted on July 28 of first-degree murder, five counts of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder and one count each of assault with a firearm and possession of live ammunition by a minor.
He was sentenced on Aug. 13 to 255 years, 8 months to life.
