SEATTLE --
Did you hear about this city councilman in the State of Washington that was attacked over the weekend by a wild black bear?
I wanted to send out my love and thoughts to Bellevue, Washington City Council member John Chelminiak who was attacked on Friday evening.
He is lucky to be alive, and is expected to recover.
Here is what happened:
According to published reports, Councilman Cheminiak was walking two family dogs when the bear "came out of nowhere" and attacked.
Chelminiak was able to shout to his family warning of a bear. He was immediately taken to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, and from there he was airlifted to Harborview.
The councilman is in stable condition today (Monday) at Harborview Medical Center after being literally mauled by a wild black bear Friday night near Lake Wenatchee, Washington. According to his wife, Lynn Semler, Council member Chelminiak was in "good spirits" after doctors over the weekend treated him for multiple wounds to his upper body.
"I want to thank the many, many people who have been in contact the past few days concerned about John's condition and offering to help any way they could," Semler said. "It has truly been a huge comfort during this terrible ordeal."
The bear was tracked down and found four hours later, and killed.
