Artesia, CA

The hood around here has gone "tacky chic" with the grand opening today's new .99 Cent Store on South Street west of Pioneer Boulevard.  Go figure.

In these days of tough economic times, the previous high end designer furniture store that use to occupy this retail location for generations has now gone "cheap and chic," and today it is the hottest place to shop in all of Southern California.

Just saw the amazing Gail Anderson from KTLA News on the tube praising the .99 cent organic fruits and veggie section on the tube, and there goes that Eyewitness News van running down South Street...

.99 Cent Store gave away lots of swag this morning....like 17 inch flat screens for .99 cents for 9 lucky shoppers, back packs for .99 cents, marking pens for .99 cents....you get the drill.

So, will the addition of the .99 Cent Store add extra tax revenue to the City of Artesia coffers?  Remember, this community is on the verge of a fiscal meltdown.

Less than 1/2 mile from this cheap and chic location is the newly expanded Los Cerritos Center that now boasts the worlds largest Apple Store and the biggest and newest Nordstrom's in all of California.  $1.700 Gucci Pumps are flying off the racks at the new Nordies, and this .99 Cent place has packets of salad for, you guest it.... .99 cents.

Go figure.  I am heading over there in 30 mins.  Ciao for now.
