Former California State Assemblyman Keith Richman has lost his battle with brain cancer and has passed away at the age of 56.

Keith was an amazing leader in the California State Assembly from 2000 to 2006 and represented the Santa Clarita Valley area.

He was a Republican who understood the importance of working for the "people" and not for a "political party" or a "political agenda."

Dr. Richman was smart, and witty, and was one of the best leaders in Sacramento in this era of term limits.   Everyone respected Dr. Keith.

He was passionate about pension reform and standing up against government waste. Richman was a founder and board member of the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility, which in recent years worked to highlight public pension costs, including posting names of thousands of six-figure pension recipients online.

Keith Stuart Richman was born Nov. 21, 1953, in Syracuse, N.Y., but his family moved to the San Fernando Valley when he was a toddler.

He went to Birmingham High School in Van Nuys and enrolled at UC Davis, where he played baseball and graduated in 1975, his brother said. Richman earned his medical degree and a master's in public health at UCLA.

Before getting into politics, Richman was chairman of the board of Lakeside Community Healthcare Inc., a Glendale-based medical group he founded.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to the Richman family tonight.  He will be missed!

I didn't even know that Dr. Richman was ill. What a shock. Very very sad news.
