HONOLULU -- Every Congressman and Congress gal in Washington is in danger this election season.
Anti-Establishment/Anti-Political Insider Fever is sweeping everywhere.
Tonight after weeks of campaigning, Republican Charles Djou won the special election for Hawaii's 1st Congressional District in the most "DEMOCRATIC of SAFE DEMOCRATIC" Congressional Districts in this side of the Mississippi.
Djou will replace uber-Democrat Neil Abercrombie in Congress. Abercrombie stepped down to focus on his run for governor. Neil Abercrombie has had a serious Republican challenger in this district in GENERATIONS, and I do mean forever.
Dumb move Neil, Dems.
This "super safe" Democratic seat is now in the hands of the GOP, and good luck trying to get it back into the "Blue" Column this November.
Recent polls showed that Djou led Democrats former U.S. Rep. Ed Case and Senate President Colleen Hanabusa. Hanabusa finished second, despite a recent poll that put her behind Case. See, you can't trust pollsters or polls in politics. Do like I do when a pollster calls you....lie....don't them who you are really voting for...it works every time.
Voting Results:
(R) Charles Djou 67,274 votes 39.5 percent
(D) Colleen Hanabusa 52,445 votes 30.8 percent
(D) Ed Case 47,012 votes 27.6 percent
(D) Rafael Del Castillo 654 votes 0.4 percent
(N) Kalaeloa Strode 489 votes 0.3 percent
(N) Jim Brewer 269 votes 0.2 percent
(D) Philmund Lee 254 votes 0.1 percent
(R) Charles (Googie) Collins 192 votes 0.1 percent
(R) Kaui Jochanan Amsterdam 169 votes 0.1 percent
(D) Vinny Browne 149 votes 0.1 percent
(N) Steve Tataii 123 votes 0.1 percent
(R) Douglas Crum 107 votes 0.1 percent
(R) John (Raghu) Giuffre 82 votes 0.0 percent
(N) Karl F. Moseley 79 votes 0.0 percent
Some members of the Democratic Party at the national level expressed frustration because Case and Hanabusa split the vote of the party in the winner-take-all special election. Combined, Case and Hanabusa had 58 percent of the vote compared to Djou's 39.5 percent.
This Congressional District is the HOME CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT of DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA. Can you imagine. An little known local city councilman from Honolulu took on the White House and the entire Democratic Party tonight and walked away with this special election. Djou will be the first Republican to represent the 50th state in Congress since Rep. Pat Saiki 20 years ago. Amazing.
Remember, 2010 is about getting rid of the political establishment in Washington. It's not about Good Republicans or Bad Democrats. It's about stopping our DO NOTHING, out of TOUCH CONGRESS from spending our national into the fiscal abyss.
So, the wave continues.
Tonight in Hawaii it was a political tidal wave.
Yep. Roll Tide Roll!
Djou will have to run for re-election in the fall. He would face a tougher challenge because Djou would go head-to-head against Hanabusa or Case in the November general election.
Don't worry, Congressman-Elect. You are going to get tons of help from folks all over America...!

You are so so right. I live here in Hawaii, and this election was about stopping "politicians" and politics as usual. People want to say that the Democrats "split" the vote...but thats Bull shit. The Deomocrats in Washington ARE the PROBLEM....and ANYONE who runs against WASHINGTON this year CAN WIN. Right on, Randy. Great Blog. HUGE FAN here in HAWAII!
What a riot. Love this political chaos all over America.
