NORWALK IS OUR CITY, CA -

Norwalk Sheriffs have arrested an 18 year old man early Saturday morning after he allegedly shot at deputies over on Mapledale Street and Cabrillo Avenue.

Walter Morales, 18, of Norwalk is in custody tonight facing attempted murder of a peace officer, and is being held without bail.   Law enforcement officials believe that that incident is "gang related."  No officer was injured.

Here are the details:

At about 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning, over at Mapledale Street and Cabrillo Avenue here in Norwalk, two deputies pulled over a car for a traffic stop. Then, it is being reported that Morales got out of the car and fired a handgun at deputies.  Dumb move, Wally.

The vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the shooting suspect behind.

Morales fled into a residential neighborhood where he was found a short time later with the help of a police dog, where man's best pal took a bite out of the young Mr. Morales, who was taken to a local hospital and was then booked for his crime.

They also found a gun near where they found Morales hiding.  If you have details about this crime, call the Norwalk Sheriff's Department at 562 863-8711.
